LEONSEGS

LEONSEGS (Large Earth Observation New Space Ecosystem Ground Segment), co-funded by the European Commission under the Horizon Europe programme, addresses the crippling fragmentation within the Earth Observation (EO) industry. Its mission is to unlock the full potential of multi-mission data through a unified, federated environment.

The Federated Architecture

The system employs harmonised interfaces governed by a central, automated service. This enables diverse providers to collaborate seamlessly, coordinating assets to deliver complex, tailored EO products to end-users.

Powering the New Space Sector

The architecture integrates two key pillars:

– EO Product Providers: Established operators offering existing data through the platform.

– Satellite Constellations: New missions utilising Ground Segment as a Service (GSaaS) for data access and acquisition tasking.

By providing a standardised, automated framework, LEONSEGS aims to provide vital market access for players wishing to externalise ground operations. This approach fundamentally improves operational efficiency and expands the global catalogue of sophisticated EO solutions.
